Dear Colleague, The Physical Review Journal Club returns March 28 with an exclusive conversation with author Tobias Serwatka, (University of Waterloo) discussing the recently published Physical Review Letters paper "Quantum Phase Transition in the One-Dimensional Water Chain." In the paper, Serwatka and colleagues performed high-quality wave-function-based simulations to demonstrate the existence of a quantum phase transition in a crucially relevant molecular system, namely, water, forming linear chains of rotating molecules. The team determined various critical exponents and revealed the water chain QPT to belong to the (1+1)-dimensional Ising universality class. Serwatka will provide a short presentation followed by a live question-and-answer session where all attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the research. When: March 28, 2023 2:00 p.m. ET The paper under discussion: Quantum Phase Transition in the One-Dimensional Water Chain T. Serwatka, R. G. Melko, A. Burkov, and P.-N. Roy Phys. Rev. Lett. 130, 026201 | The Physical Review Journal Club events are live, interactive events allowing early-career scientists to discuss the latest published advances in physics with leaders in the field. There will be a short presentation, followed by an interactive session where the participating author will answer your questions. This is a rare opportunity to engage with the authors of important research developments in an "Ask Me Anything" format. During this interactive portion of the Journal Club, participants will be allowed to have their camera and microphone on and are encouraged to join in open discussion with the presenters. Please feel free to share this information with your institution and colleagues. Registration is free, and a video recording will be distributed to all registrants at the conclusion of the event. | | | |
