Dear Colleague, The Physical Review Journal Club returns February 15 with an exclusive conversation with author Wei Qiu (Lund University) discussing their recently published Physical Review Applied paper "Enhancement of Acoustic Energy Density in Bulk-Wave-Acoustophoresis Devices Using Side Actuation." In this study, Qiu and colleagues found that the energy density in devices for bulk-wave acoustophoresis can be enhanced by actuation from the side. Based on qualitative free-flow focusing experiments, side actuation shows clear superiority to bottom actuation under various input powers and flow rates. Quantitative measurements using confocal microparticle image velocimetry confirm an increase by a factor of 4 in energy density using side actuation. Qiu will provide a short presentation of their results followed by a live question-and-answer session, moderated by Bruce Drinkwater (University of Bristol), during which all attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the research. When: February 15, 2023 9:00 AM Eastern Time (US and Canada) The paper under discussion: Enhancement of Acoustic Energy Density in Bulk-Wave-Acoustophoresis Devices Using Side Actuation Wei Qiu, Thierry Baasch, and Thomas Laurell Phys. Rev. Applied 17, 044043 | The session will be moderated by: Bruce Drinkwater, University of Bristol The Physical Review Journal Club events are live, interactive events allowing early-career scientists to discuss the latest published advances in physics with leaders in the field. There will be a short presentation, followed by an interactive session where the participating author will answer your questions. This is a rare opportunity to engage with the authors of important research developments in an "Ask Me Anything" format. During this interactive portion of the Journal Club, participants will be allowed to have their camera and microphone on and are encouraged to join in open discussion with the presenters. Please feel free to share this information with your institution and colleagues. Registration is free, and a video recording will be distributed to all registrants at the conclusion of the event. | | | |
